Wow! That’s all I can say. The response rate for ALTA has broken records.
Within the first 15 minutes of launching the survey, 180 students completed the survey, and about 130 students completed the survey within the next 15 minutes.
Check out the following graph:

The response rate for ALTA within 24 hours of launch. If previous survey response patterns hold true, about 2200 students may respond at the end of the 2-week collection period.
We reached 1200 responses in 24 hours. For COMBO III, it took 11 days to reach this number of responses (this survey was, however, released over the summer — so this is not surprising). For a slightly better comparison, COMBO II was released in April 2009 and attained 1600 total responses. It took 3 days for COMBO II to reach 1200 responses. This is very exciting!
Here is how this response rate compares to the other surveys:

ALTA has had the fastest response rate of any USG survey. Click the image to enlarge.
Reminders are scheduled for Saturday (1/21), Wednesday (1/25), and Monday (1/30). These will only be sent to those that have not completed the survey yet. We expect that each reminder will net about half of the number of responses of the previous email. Therefore, we expect to receive 600, 300, and 150 responses, respectively, for the upcoming reminders. This would put the total response rate over 2200 — the highest response rate of any survey the USG has ever conducted, not to mention one of this length.
Thank you to everyone who’s taken time to take the survey! We’re eager to make it worth your while. We’ll begin analyzing the data after we stop collecting responses, and then we’ll be hard at work talking through our proposals and conclusions with our advisory board and other stakeholders.
If you have any feedback that you did not or could not contribute by the survey, please feel free to get in contact with us via the “Contribute” page.
For comparison, here are the response rates for COMBO II and COMBO III by themselves. Notice how each email reminder garners about half the number of responses as the previous reminder. For COMBO II, this meant 1000 and then 600 responses for each email. For COMBO III, this meant 1100, 500, and 270 responses for each email.

COMBO II was administered in April 2009. There was only one reminder email sent for this survey. The data is "lumpy" because there were also kiosks set up around campus that served food to those who completed the survey -- meaning there were other publicity methods than email.

COMBO III collected data in June and July of 2011. Because it was administered over the summer, the response rate was slower, but the overall response surpassed it's predecessor. There were two email reminders, the results of which are clearly visible on this graph.
